About us: Founded by the late Jim Browne 5th Dan 1930-2025, Addington Judo Club has been a service to the community since 1954, offering affordable access to a decent quality martial art/sport/community club. It has always been non-profit with all money taken used for rent and expenses inside the Club.

 

Judo: meaning ‘the gentle way’ Judo is a safe and effective martial art developed in Japan in 1882 from Ju-Jitsu by Dr Jigaro Kano.

An Olympic sport since 1964, judo focuses on the utilisation of your opponent’s movement and strength against them, Judo Builds good fitness, posture, balance and instils respect, good morals and confidence. Judo techniques include throwing, hold-downs, arm locks and strangle techniques.

 

Costs/expenditure: Addington Judo Club is committed to providing good quality judo training for all at an affordable price, ie, this is not a business, Sessions are priced to cover the club and therefore allow you/your families the means to take part in an inclusive sport/martial art, your main basic costs are as follows:

 

A license: is required in order to insure you to train grade and/or compete, This must be taken out on completion of or before your 4th session at £10 for a 3 month temporary license (which will be incorporated into the cost of a full license when you extend it) OR a full license. new licenses are £31 for Under 18s, £37 for Over £18.

You will be required to renew your license once a year,

Renewal is your responsibility! You will need a full license to take part in gradings and/or competitions.

 

 

Judogi (suits): costs vary on size & make from £20 smallest/cheapest to £30 largest, for 350GSM (although heavier more durable are available upon request,) These are sold through the club at below RRP prices. Please see Sensei Steve.

 

 

Judo Sessions: These are £5 Pay as you go, £20 a month for twice a week session and £15 a month for once a week, it should be obvious that the more sessions you attend, the better you will become and the higher the value for money is. The first session is always free!

 

 

Gradings/competitions: Once you have begun your Judo journey you may want to test yourself and your newly learned skills, Gradings cost from £4 in club (as of 2024) up to  £15 at higher level (above Green Belt), Competitions range from £8-£20 at area level to £20/£30 at national/international level.

 

Judo jacket lending

the club will lend you a jacket and belt for your first few sessions or until you are happy to buy your own, please make sure you put these back on the rack before you leave.
